Connie Burns (1973 – ) is a mixed‑media artist based in Castlemaine, Central Victoria. Working primarily at large scale, her layered drawings and collages respond to lived experience—grief, loss, endurance and the natural world—with a direct, tactile approach. Paper is central to her practice: pliable yet durable, it takes a beating, accepts layered mark‑making and found materials, is accessible and economical, and is straightforward to frame and hang.
Connie’s process is materially rich and often physically demanding: surfaces accumulate, fracture and are reworked until they carry a memory of the moment. Her work turns vulnerability into a space for witnessing and repair. The resulting surfaces and immersive compositions invite slow looking and honest conversation, offering viewers a place to sit with difficult emotions and to find connection in shared human experience.
