About Connie, the development of Creative Care & meeting Gena; trainee therapy dog & cuddle professional.

Connie Burns is an independent Artist, professionally trained Art Therapist, Yoga Instructor, End of Life Doula and experienced Disability Arts Support Worker. Currently working for a non for profit social inclusion art studio in Bendigo Victoria.  As a practicing artist for 25 years there is a huge portfolio of my past works and exhibitions on this website. Large 20mt installations/drawings, small oils, sci fi influenced art, painting’s, and smash journals.

Gena is a 2 yr old lovely lady, British Bulldog,  who has recently joined me after being retired from breeding ( Gena is from a registered and ethical professional & caring breeder). Gena is currently developing her therapy skills through professional training with temperament and behavior assessments. Gena is only too eager to give cuddles and loves attention. She has an incredible amount of love to share , a solid strong body to cuddle , you know you are safe. Gena is always smiling, and especially fond of a treat.

Together we make ‘ Creative Care’  art based creative care and support service. With the Creative Care van ‘ Vanananda  – ananda” ( means Joy) we come to you. Or with the zoom platform we can meet in the comfort and privacy of your home and my studio. As well as art we can support you in daily living needs, social inclusion, exercise, yoga, meditation, we love a good cuppa and a chat. Gena loves new friends for a walk.

Creative Care came about after many years of lived experience; living with major depressive and anxiety disorders. I have survived many suicidal attempts, deadly eating disorders and holding debilitating suppressed guilt, shame and grief.

The constant companion that has seen me through all of the persistent underlying vortex of sadness, has been art. Creating art has been my savior and at times my nemesis.

Art making is a way of knowing and a way of expression when there simply are no words. Art making is a way of being in the world, it is fundamental to connection and understanding ourselves, to connecting with each other  and connecting to this wonderful world we live in. Problem solving and sharing our stories through an art based process is incredibly rewarding and for me, life saving.

Art making for me has also been pure joy. Art covers all range of life experiences, art making is not only therapy for the tough times, its healing for the worried well  and the simple creation of something from the heart that is all yours and yours alone. Let Gena and I help you embrace your unique creative talents. There is always a technique to create art  regardless of any form of disability, or as I prefer to say , our varying abilities.
